This is disgusting. The US Military is asking wounded soldiers to return their signing bonuses because now that they are wounded, they can’t finish their commitment. And people try to tell me I don’t support the troops because I want them to come home?
And it isn’t just this one thing. These types of injustices have been happening all over the country. Did you hear about this? The military is denying National Guard Troops their college benefits because they were brought home ONE DAY early! Is it even necessary to point out that it isn’t the decision of the troops to send themselves home a day early, thus forfeiting their benefits as promised?
I’m not going to spend all day googling the dozens of other examples, but they are out there.
And if you want to do something to help the soldiers, contact your representatives and tell them to support HR 3793 which will guarantee members of the military will be allowed to keep their signing bonuses. And kudos to Nancy Boyda for being a co-sponsor.
UPDATE: Ah, the blogosphere. I just noticed that Think Progress has a post on this and also links to HR 3793, as well. And apparently the news site I first learned about this on had apparently seen it there first, so they deserve a link.
UPDATE 2: SusanUnPC at Larry Franklin’s blog draws some interesting parallels that are worth noting.
